Belarus took 1st place among the countries which had nominated their candidatures for the UNESCO Executive Board

On 8 November, 2017, within the framework of the 39th session of the UNESCO General Conference (From 30 October to 14 November, Paris), the Republic of Belarus was elected to the UNESCO Executive Board. Our country received broad support from the member states of the Organization, which testifies to the high prestige of Belarus both in UNESCO and in the international arena.
The Republic of Belarus as a member of UNESCO since 1954 was elected to the governing body of the Organization for the fifth time. Belarus took 1st place among the countries which had nominated their candidatures for the UNESCO Executive Board. 171 out of 184 states, participating in the General Conference, voted for Belarus (95 percent of the vote).
The Ambassador, Permanent Representative of Belarus to UNESCO Pavel Latushka in his speech on the eve of the elections expressed his gratitude to the Organization for the assistance provided to Belarus in the areas of preservation and promotion of the World Heritage Sites, intangible heritage, cultural diversity, and for cooperation within the framework of UNESCO’s scientific programs. P.Latushka underlined that as a member of the Executive Board Belarus intends to make active efforts to enhance the role of UNESCO, as well as to develop cooperation with the Organization and with member states.
